Essential oils and your practice

Essential oils have been used for thousands of years, each oil has it’s own properties to help the mind, body and spirit. Have you tried using them in your meditation or yoga practice? Here is some information on a few oils to get your started! If it’s evening time when you usually meditate or enjoy your yoga practice, then Lavender is a lovely and relaxing oil to unwind the emotions and calm the mind, perfect before bed. Frankincense is a beautiful comforting and destressing oil. The aroma of Frankincense can be helpful during meditation and connection work with it’s spiritual scent. Peppermint has an awakening scent with a comforting vibe ideal for a mid afternoon practice when your energy may be starting to dip. Why not try the scent of Orange essential oil during your morning practice to help you start the day the right way? It has a zesty and vibrant uplifting scent.

Here are a few ways to include them in your practice.

  1. Diffusers – one of my favourite ways to use essential oils is using a diffuser. Just fill your diffuser with water and add in a few drops of your choice of essential oil or you could buy a mixed oil blend that is for a specific purpose such as relaxation or an energy boost. Once the diffuser is switched on the aroma will start to fill your space.
  2. Candles – there are many brands out there now that use pure essential oils within their candle. The perfect of blend of relaxing candlelight and a beautiful aroma.
  3. Roller ball or balm – Apply the essential oil roller ball or balm onto your wrist points and temples and inhale the healing scents whilst you practice.

There are so many essential oils for you to learn about and explore. I hope you enjoy integrating them into your practice and benefit from the healing properties they each have. May they take your practice to another level of loveliness!

Enjoy and journey within…
