There are many ways to cleanse your mala, maybe give a couple of these ideas a try and see which feels right for you.
Intention
The easiest on the go option is with intention. This is a perfect way to clear away any negative energy your mala may have collected over time. Simply hold the mala in your hands and bring it close to your heart. Using your intention, silently or aloud ask for it to be cleansed, you can even drop in a positive affirmation at the end too! It’s quick, simple and very effective.
Incense, sage smudge sticks and palo santo
Incense sticks can be used to cleanse your mala. Let the smoke of the incense stick float over and around your mala. You could visualise that the smoke drifting away is removing anything that was needed to be taken away from your mala for it to be cleansed. You can use a sage smudge stick in the same way that you would with incense. Using a sage smudge stick is a very good way to clear energy from your mala. I find that things always feel energetically lighter after using it. It seems to create one of those lovely “ahh” breathing out moments. Palo Santo is used in the same way as sage smudge sticks, but it has a sweeter smell, so this may be a nice option to try.
Crystals
Amethyst and Clear Quartz crystals have great cleansing properties. Place your mala around or over a piece of one of these crystals and let the energy of the crystal work its magic. Leave it there for as long as you feel it needs. When your finished run your crystal under cold water to cleanse away any negative energy it may have collected, then let it dry ready for when you need it next.
Singing bowls
A really uplifting way of cleansing a mala is with a singing bowl. Strike the side of the bowl with the mallet and then move the stick around the outer edge of the bowl. When it starts to sing, hover the bowl over your mala and let the beautiful sound vibrations cleanse it.
Happy cleansing!
